NCMH joins MRC centenary celebrations

Researchers from the NCMH joined colleagues from the Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (MRC CNGG) for a celebration of the Medical Research Council’s centenary on Thursday 20th June.

The public event at Cardiff University’s Julian Hodge Lecture Theatre attracted over 200 visitors, including academics and members of the public.

Guests visited information stalls and took part in a range of interactive activities including an EEG powered brain game and a maze designed to test cognitive ability. Among the guests was former First Minister of Wales, Rhodri Morgan.

The event also included a lecture on the achievements, history and future of the MRC.

Speakers included Minister for Health and Social Services Mark Drakeford AM, Cardiff University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Treasure, Director of Research and Development of Cardiff University School of Medicine Professor Jon Bisson, Cardiff University School of Medicine Dean Professor Paul Morgan and MRC CNGG director Professor Mike Owen.

Early-career researchers Ruth Sellers, Denise Harold and James Walters brought the lecture to a close with a brief overview of their work and careers to date.
