HELLO

Introducing the Brain and Genomics Hub

The Brain and Genomics Hub is one of five new research hubs that make up the Mental Health Research Platform funded by UKRI. The platform was established to accelerate progress towards new and more effective treatments for serious mental illness.

Our Hub is made up of a number of universities and third sector organisations working together to better understand serious mental illnesses and to better support the people living with these conditions. The third sector organisations Adferiad and Bipolar UK are helping us to put the lived experiences of people at the heart of our research.

 ABOUT THIS STUDY

Why we're doing this research

Currently there is a lot of overlap in the diagnosis of conditions like psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder.

At the same time, people who have received the same diagnosis can have vastly different experiences and symptoms, and can respond differently to existing treatments.

The Bipolar, Schizophrenia and Psychosis Research Initiative (B-Sprint) study from the Brain and Genomics Hub aims to go beyond diagnostic boundaries, to help identify ways to develop more targeted treatment approaches for people living with these conditions, and to improve how they are diagnosed.

What to expect when you visit us in Cardiff

We have created a short video to give you an idea of what you will experience when you take part in a study visit day at Cardiff University.

GET INVOLVED

Take part in research

To help our researchers learn more about psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar and schizoaffective disorder, we are recruiting 600 people with lived experience of these conditions.

What to expect when you take part

Once our team have confirmed you are eligible to take part, you will:

  • be asked questions about your mental health and life experiences
  • complete some cognitive tasks to assess your memory and learning styles
  • be asked for a blood sample
  • have a MEG and MRI scan

If this sounds of interest, register your details today so our researchers can get in touch and discuss your eligibility to take part. Please note, depending on when you register it may take a month or two for them to get in touch.
