Professor Ann John

Principal Investigator

Professor Ann John is a clinical academic at Swansea University Medical School, a consultant in public health medicine and a Farr Institute investigator. She qualified in medicine in London and then worked as a GP in South Wales.

Ann’s main areas of research are suicide, self harm and depression with a particular focus on routinely collected data. She chairs the National Advisory Group to Welsh Government and is the national lead for Public Health Wales on suicide and self harm prevention.

These roles support her commitment to the translation of research evidence into policy and practice. Ann sits on the Faculty of Public Health’s Mental Health Committee and the Mental Health Independent Advisory Group to the Health Quality Improvement Partnership.
