Sleep Zzzines Youth Co-production Group
We are inviting young people to help design engaging and inclusive sleep lessons for pupils transitioning from primary to secondary school.
Before you decide whether to apply, please read this page carefully. You can discuss it with family, friends or a trusted adult if you wish.
Please contact us if anything is unclear or you would like the information in another format – contact details can be found at the bottom of this page.
The Sleep Zzzines Project
Sleep problems are common in young people but useful, accurate information on how to improve sleep is hard to find.
Young people and teachers have told us that they would like more information on sleep to be taught in school.
We want to work with young people to design sleep lessons that are interesting and tackle the issues that you think are most important.
We will do this in co-production workshops where we will create zines.

The workshops
You will take part in four co-production workshops with other young people. The workshops will be run by Dr Katie Lewis and staff at Cardiff University, and co-directors of the Grange Pavilion Youth Forum.
The workshops will be in-person at the Grange Pavilion, Grange Gardens, Cardiff CF11 7LJ from 10am-3pm.
There will be regular breaks with drinks, snacks and lunch provided.
The workshops will be on:
- Saturday 3 October
- Saturday 10 October
- Saturday 31 October
- Saturday 6 February
What will happen in the workshops?
In the workshops, you will:
- Learn about how sleep changes in puberty and why sleep problems might be on the rise in young people.
- Create zines on sleep (you don’t need to be good at art to take part).
- Discuss what is currently taught about sleep in schools and what you think would be most helpful to learn about.
- Work together to create lessons on sleep that will be used in primary schools in Grangetown and Butetown. This will include co-designing lesson slides, activities, “sleep challenges” and giving feedback on an animation.
