Take part in our bipolar education courses

The National Centre for Mental Health’s group education programme for people with bipolar disorder will begin its latest round of courses across Wales this month.

Four new groups will start Bipolar Education Programme Cymru (BEP-C) course in mid to late September in Brecon, Bridgend, Wrexham and Llangefni.

BEP-C was developed by the Cardiff University Mood Disorders Research group with support from the Big Lottery Fund. Almost 2000 people have benefitted from BEP-C and its online counterpart Beating Bipolar since the project began in 2010.

BEP-C is designed to provide people with bipolar disorder with a greater understanding of their condition, and enable them to take personal responsibility for managing their condition. The programme is delivered through 10 2-hour weekly sessions, and consists of a combination of presentations, group discussions and group exercises. The programme is supported by a range of online resources at the BEP-C website, www.bep-c.org, which includes information on the causes of the condition, medication, tips on monitoring mood, and ways to identify personal triggers.

NCMH Deputy Director Professor Ian Jones said, “This unique programme is designed to enable participants to gain improved awareness of their disorder, have a better understanding of their treatment, provide the skills necessary to detect early signs of relapse and, most importantly, enable them to make informed decisions about their treatment.”

Find out more about BEP-C at www.bep-c.org, or email bepc@cardiff.ac.uk to enrol in the groups starting this September.
